Description

This photo was taken about 20 minutes away from where I live. I used to pass this little old farmhouse every day when I attended University.

Despite having never known the people who lived here, I find myself wondering what their lives must’ve been like. The rusted old farm equipment, the simple and cozy-looking house (in slight disrepair), and the limbless tree stumps all seem to suggest that these people worked very hard to earn a living, and that they probably didn’t take as many things for granted as we do (e.g., running water, electricity, transportation, etc.). I’ll likely never really know for sure, but sadly, this little piece of the past has since been torn down…probably to make room for an apartment complex, a strip mall, or some other “necessity” of the modern world.

I’ve also provided links below for the sepia and black & white versions of this photo.

This photo was captured with a Nikon D70 (1/200s @ f/7.1, ISO 200, FL 38 mm).

Hmm...the black and white version looks great in Photoshop, but looks very dark in my browser--despite having saved it as an sRGB image. Oh well, I relunctant to change it for an un-color-managed browser environment, so if you want to see it the way I intended, try viewing it inside of Photoshop.

WOW! Very very nice lighting, I think you took this photo at the best time of day :)

The contrasts are great too, very nice job!

sepia rocks!!! and the BW doesn't look dark:) the sky a bit washed, but that is not your fault, keep it up:)

I miss the sky, did you use a polarizer anyways?

I agree that the sky could've been more interesting, but it was a little beyond my control ;) And no, I did not use a polarizer--probably should have...

Too bad society cannot preserve these places but at least you have in your photo!! Very good shot!! I prefer the color version but all three work very well.

The tree version are very good but I finally prefer the sepia version because this house doesn't exist any more.

Thanks for the story. Maybe the people who lived here earned money by selling their piece of land. They maybe have been rehoused in a better place .. maybe. Or they're maybe now homeless ? How to know it ?

For this : my max (+9)
