Description

Okay, here goes... my first public architecture post. Comments and constructive feedback welcomed and encouraged.

This is the John Thurston Clark Memorial Building, which is located in an area known as the Historic Garrison District, in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada (where I live). The District was declared a National Historic Site in 1965. Constructed in 1881 as Fredericton's Post Office and Customs House, the Clark Building later served as the Public Library, and then as the National Exhibition Centre. Since 1996, the Sports Hall of Fame has occupied the entire building.

This photo was captured with a Nikon D70 (1/400s @ f/10, ISO 200, FL 27.0 mm).

Having tried with limited success to capture similar scenes I realize the difficulties involved. This works well although you might want to try this shot in heavily overcast conditions to see if the different lighting might create a different mood.

Good shot Trevor!

Try strange angles and take many shots at different times of the day.

This one has some problems imo with the shadows below the building and also a few on the lower part of the bricks.

I would definitely try this early morning or late afternoon.

Waiting for your next! ;)

nice picture but the shadows is quite a problem here :)
you should be able to get a decent picture at another time of the day, rest is good :)

I agree with the comments about the lighting and the shadows.

The shadows on the foreground are a little distracting.......still the colors and details are great!

Thanks everyone! I'll try this shot again sometime when I can avoid the shadows from the giant elm trees on this street; but it may be a while, as this building is now being renovated.

Lol I think the shadows add to the atmosphere;)

Its a nice clean shot,
perhaps this one works too in black&white?

Somehow I wish that wall on the right wasnt there but
breaking it wouldnt be an option I think:p

Nice! + 10
